Here\u2019s how to avoid common scams:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Taxis<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: Avoid taxis without yellow plates.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The one that stops and says to you: \u201c<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Taxi, taxi!!!<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201d avoid them.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Choose taxis with <\/span><b>logos and branding<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2014they charge fair prices.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Macedonian Phone Number<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: Consider buying a <\/span><b>Macedonian SIM card<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, (it\u2019s about \u20ac8 to \u20ac20).\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ask locals, \u201c<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Where can I buy a Macedonian SIM card?<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201d People here are polite and will give you directions.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Once you have a SIM card, you can call reliable taxi services:<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Here are some local taxi companies that I recommend:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Taksi Suzuki<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: Call this number 13999 <\/span><b>\u00a0<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">English-speaking<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">)<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Or\u2026<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Taxi Mercedes<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: Call this number 13666 (<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">also English-speaking<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">)<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Pro Tip<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: Once the taxi arrives, show your destination on Google Maps to the driver and they&#8217;ll take you there. They might not know how to speak English.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The price should range from <\/span><b>100 to 500 denars<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, depending on the distance.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Changing Money<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><b>Credit cards<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> are accepted at most restaurants and businesses.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You can pay with <\/span><b>euros <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">too but If I were you <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I would change my money at the airport<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. (there is an exchange office for sure)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Install a <\/span><b>currency converter app<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> on your phone to track how much you\u2019re spending.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Some people might try to give you fewer denars for your euros.<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> If you have a currency converter, you can spot these tricks easily.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Unfortunately, some locals believe tourists are \u201c<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">easy targets<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201d for overcharging. I don\u2019t know where this mindset comes from, but it\u2019s something to be mindful of.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Where to Stay in Ohrid?<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You have two main options for accommodations in Ohrid:<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>The Old Town<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: Known for its winding <\/span><b>cobbled streets<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><b>charming alleyways<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, this area has most of the sights, shops, restaurants, and cafes.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Along the Shores of Lake Ohrid<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: While farther from the town center, you\u2019re more likely to find hotels or resorts with private beaches, swimming pools, and on-site restaurants.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you want my recommendations?
