But I will admit\u2014Ohrid is the best city in Macedonia.<\/span><\/p>\n

Whether you\u2019re visiting with your family or alone, in the following gems, you\u2019ll take amazing pictures of our culture & nature, and you\u2019re going to learn new things about Skopje…<\/span><\/p>\n

Let\u2019s dig in\u2026<\/span><\/p>\n

The Statue of Alexander the Great<\/b><\/h2>\n

\"The<\/p>\n

Greeks say that Alexander the Great is Greek. They are wrong. Anyways\u2026<\/span><\/p>\n

In the heart of Skopje, there is a <\/span>12-meter-high<\/b> statue. It\u2019s horrendous.<\/span><\/p>\n

This is not a \u201csecret, secret gem.\u201d Maybe you\u2019ve seen it on the internet, but now you know\u2014that\u2019s Alexander the Great on the horse.<\/span><\/p>\n

\ud83d\udccd <\/span>Where to find it?<\/b> Center of Skopje. Just walk. You won\u2019t miss it.<\/span><\/p>\n

Millennium Cross<\/b><\/h2>\n

\"Millennium<\/p>\n

The Millennium Cross is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Skopje, and it offers one of the best sunset views in the city.<\/span><\/p>\n

To get there, you\u2019ve got options:<\/span><\/p>\n

    \n
  • Public transport<\/b> ($2 for a 24-hour ticket, 30 min ride).<\/span><\/li>\n
  • Taxi<\/b> ($5, 15 min ride).<\/span><\/li>\n
  • Bike or hike<\/b> (if you like suffering).<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    Once you reach <\/span>Middle Vodno<\/b>, you\u2019ll see a few kiosks where you can buy snacks and drinks before starting your journey to the top of the mountain.<\/span><\/p>\n

    Anyway\u2026 If you decide to take the cable car, be mindful of their operating times\u2026<\/span><\/p>\n

    • Low season (Oct\u2013Mar):<\/b> Runs from 10 AM to 5 PM (last ride at 4:45 PM).<\/span><\/li>\n
    • High season (Apr\u2013Sep):<\/b> Open till 8 PM.<\/span><\/li>\n
    • Closed on Mondays.<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      So, if you\u2019re visiting in October and want to see the sunset\u2026 plan ahead.<\/span><\/p>\n

      Kale Fortress<\/b><\/h2>\n

      The <\/span>Kale Fortress<\/b> stands as a historical monument in the heart of Skopje, and it offers a breathtaking sunset view of the city.<\/span><\/p>\n

      \"Kale<\/p>\n

      It\u2019s centrally located and easily accessible by foot from the Alexander statue we just talked about\u2014it takes roughly <\/span>15 to 20 minutes<\/b> to get there on foot.<\/span><\/p>\n

      Alternatively, you can take a taxi, which costs around <\/span>$2\u20133<\/b>, and you\u2019ll arrive in about <\/span>5 minutes<\/b>.<\/span><\/p>\n

      Near the entrance to the fortress, you\u2019ll find several vendors selling snacks and drinks\u2014<\/span>perfect<\/b> for grabbing a quick bite before exploring.<\/span><\/p>\n

      \u23f0 <\/span>Opening hours:<\/b> 9 AM \u2013 7 PM<\/span><\/p>\n

      \ud83d\udcba <\/span>Bonus:<\/b> There are plenty of benches inside the fortress where you can sit and enjoy the panoramic views of the city.<\/span><\/p>\n

      Matkakloof<\/b><\/h2>\n

      Matka is not in Skopje, but it\u2019s a <\/span>must-visit<\/b> outdoor destination in North Macedonia.<\/span><\/p>\n

      A short ride from Skopje, you\u2019ll find <\/span>one of the most beautiful places in Macedonia<\/b>.<\/span><\/p>\n

      In <\/span>1938<\/b>, a dam was built on the <\/span>Treska River<\/b>, creating an <\/span>artificial lake<\/b> surrounded by towering mountains\u2014the <\/span>oldest<\/b> of its kind in North Macedonia.<\/span><\/p>\n

      You\u2019ll see <\/span>a lot of unique species<\/b> here\u2014ones you won\u2019t find anywhere else in the world…<\/span><\/p>\n

      There are also <\/span>ten caves<\/b> in Matka Canyon, but if you visit only one, make it <\/span>Vrelo Cave<\/b>. You\u2019ll take <\/span>amazing<\/b> pictures here.<\/span><\/p>\n
